Absorption Scrubber

An absorption scrubber is used to remove pollutant-laden components from industrial exhaust air, such as hydrocarbons, alcohols, ammonia, amines, or hydrogen sulfide. Due to the use of packed bed media and wash liquid for exhaust air cleaning, absorption scrubbers are also known as packed bed scrubbers and fall into the category of wet scrubbers. By combining an absorption scrubber with subsequent air purification using our patented COPLAS clean plasma technology, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and odour concentrations in the exhaust air can be effectively reduced to permissible limit values.

Functionality & Application

Use of Absorption Scrubbers for VOC Removal & Odour Reduction

An absorption scrubber operates by directing pollutant-laden exhaust air through a bed of packing material wetted with wash liquid in a counterflow principle. Therefore, absorption scrubbers are also known as packed bed scrubbers. The packing material provides a large surface area for gas exchange between the exhaust air and the liquid. Wash liquid is distributed over the packing material from the top and flows downward as a thin film. VOCs in the raw gas are absorbed into the wash liquid, which collects at the bottom of the scrubber and is regularly drained. The cleaned gas flows through the packing material and exits from the top of the absorption scrubber.
